e-Discovery & the California Public Records Act
e-Discovery, short for electronic discovery, is a comprehensive process that involves the identification, collection, review, and analysis of electronic records to produce them in response to a records request. Although e-Discovery is commonly associated with its use in civil litigation, its application extends to the public records domain and can offer a cost-effective approach. This becomes especially crucial as parties involved in civil litigation against local agencies increasingly utilize the California Public Records Act (CPRA) to obtain records that were traditionally sought through formal discovery processes. In this session, participants will gain insights into effectively utilizing e-Discovery principles by examining the key lessons found in recent CPRA cases.
