She/Her
Alison Bassett is a partner at Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK) and a key member of the firm’s Health Care and Business practice groups. A trusted advisor to healthcare organizations across California, she helps clients navigate complex transactions, manage regulatory risk, and advance their strategic objectives.
Alison represents hospitals, healthcare districts, nonprofit health systems, clinics, physician organizations, and county healthcare programs in a broad range of complex healthcare transactions. This includes mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, restructurings, joint ventures, long-term leases, real estate arrangements, and other strategic partnerships. She regularly advises clients on federal and state regulatory matters, including the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA, and provides strategic guidance on the operational and financial impacts of recent federal healthcare legislation, including H.R. 1 and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).
She is particularly known for her work involving public entities and nonprofit healthcare systems in California – a space requiring specialized knowledge of public law constraints, governance considerations, regulatory complexity, and political sensitivity.
Alison serves as outside general counsel to several healthcare districts and nonprofit hospitals, advising boards and executive teams on governance, contracting, regulatory compliance, and strategic initiatives. She also serves as outside general counsel to the County Medical Services Program (CMSP) Governing Board, providing comprehensive legal and strategic guidance that supports healthcare access for low-income, uninsured adults in 35 California counties. In addition, she frequently acts as outside special counsel on major healthcare transactions, guiding clients through high-impact mergers, acquisitions, long-term leases, and organizational restructurings.
With 25 years of experience in healthcare, corporate, real estate, and finance law – including time in-house with a nonprofit health system overseeing legal operations for five hospitals and a substantial property portfolio — Alison brings a practical, business-oriented perspective to every engagement. She helps healthcare leaders move complex initiatives forward with clarity and confidence.
Alison is a frequent speaker and thought leader on healthcare transactions and regulatory compliance. She serves as Vice Chair of the American Health Law Association’s Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group (2026–2029), reflecting her leadership within the national healthcare bar.
