Alison Bassett is a partner at Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK), where she is an integral member of the Health Care and Business practice groups. A trusted advisor to healthcare organizations across California, she helps clients navigate complex healthcare transactions while managing regulatory risk and advancing their strategic goals. Alison represents hospitals, healthcare districts, nonprofit health systems, clinics, physician organizations, and county healthcare programs advising them on a wide range of transactions and regulatory matters.
Alison's practice includes healthcare M&A, hospital and clinic acquisitions, corporate affiliations and restructurings, joint ventures, lease and real estate transactions, and other strategic partnerships. She regularly advise clients on federal and state regulatory issues, including the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA. She is particularly known for work on transactions involving public entities and nonprofit healthcare systems in California – a space that requires specialized knowledge of public law constraints, regulatory complexity, and governance considerations.
As outside general counsel to the County Medical Services Program (CMSP) Governing Board, Alison provides strategic legal advice across a range of programmatic, contracting, and governance matters that support healthcare access for low-income, uninsured adults in 35 California counties. She has over 20 years of experience in healthcare, corporate, real estate, and finance law – including time in-house with a nonprofit health system managing legal operations for five hospitals and a large property portfolio. This broad, practical perspective assists healthcare clients move deals forward with clarity and confidence.
Alison also mentors healthcare associates and assists in shaping BBK's strategic approach to nonprofit and public-sector healthcare clients. She is a frequent speaker on healthcare transactions and regulatory compliance for audiences including the Association of California Healthcare Districts and the California Special Districts Association.
