Also known as the “public interest” exemption, the catch-all exemption provides the last line of defense for protecting some sensitive and private information from public disclosure. Understanding the catch-all exemption’s purpose and proper use can aid agencies in protecting themselves and the public. It can also prevent overuse that may lead to litigation.
