BB&K Team Helps Secure $325 Million in Border Water Projects
USMCA and Federal Funds to Address Pollution Problem
Representing the City of Coronado, Best Best & Krieger Partner Andre Monette and Deputy Director of Governmental Affairs Ana Schwab successfully advocated for federal funding to address a significant cross-border sewage runoff problem. Instead of joining other cities in a costly lawsuit, the City instead hired the BB&K team to advocate for funds.
When the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement was announced, it included $300 million for border water pollution projects. Those funds were included by a San Diego-area congressman with whom the team negotiated repeatedly. In addition, another $25 million was approved by Congress as part of annual budget appropriations bills.
Read more about the funding in “Unlikely Allies Got White House to Tackle Tijuana River Mess: How They Pulled it Off” in the Feb. 10 edition of the Los Angeles Times.
