In a matter deemed by the Los Angeles Times as being of “national importance,” Best Best & Krieger LLP partners Christopher Pisano and Jeffrey Dunn and Associate Daniel Richards prevented an effort to extend the deadline for gathering signatures that would recall three supervisors in California’s Shasta County.

With less than one week to prepare for the high-profile trial, the BB&K team filed their opposition and successfully defended Shasta County’s Registrar of Voters against a lawsuit from Recall Shasta seeking a last minute court order to force the county to extend the deadline for collecting signatures in the attempted recall of three supervisors. Recall Shasta claimed that wildfire smoke was the reason they were stalled in collecting signatures.

After a recess of little more than half an hour, the judge ruled that the original Sept. 29 deadline would stand.

“This was an important and widely contested matter. We were pleased to earn a favorable ruling on behalf of our client,” Chris said.

The matter was covered by the LA Times, Action News Now, Jefferson Public Radio, Record Searchlight, KCR-TV, Food for Thought and others.
