Law360 Highlights BBK’s Expansion of Environmental and Water Practice Groups
Michael Brain and Gary Gold Join BBK to Advance Client Solutions in Water, Energy and Environmental Law
A Law360 article published August 22, 2025, highlighted Best Best & Krieger LLP’s (BBK) strategic growth in environmental and water law, promoting the firm’s addition of Michael Brain as a partner and director of government affairs, and Gary Gold as of counsel.
Brain brings deep experience from his time at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where he worked on water and science policy and helped advance key drought resilience initiatives. “I was authorizing projects on the Transportation Committee, I was appropriating for projects on the Appropriations Committee and then implementing projects along with Gold at Interior, so this is just sort of a natural, I would say, is a natural evolution on that side of advancing infrastructure projects,” Brain said. His leadership is expected to strengthen BBK’s ability to guide clients through complex federal and state environmental regulations.
The article also highlighted Gary Gold, who has a background in both engineering and law. In the Law360 piece, Gold said, “Water scarcity, it’s a challenge that really can’t be understated. Being able to draw on tools from both the civil engineering side, building things, and the environmental side, with Riparian and ecosystem habitat restoration, I've been able to use those tools in previous roles and now can bring that to a law firm, where our team [are] some of the best water lawyers in the country.” Gold’s experience in federal water policy and resource management further enhances the firm’s environmental and natural resources practice.
Together, Brain and Gold’s appointments reflect BBK’s commitment to expanding its capabilities and providing comprehensive support for clients navigating environmental and water-related challenges.
