Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK), in partnership with the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), selected Emmie Fiel, a high school senior at South Tahoe High School, as the recipient of the 2024 Arthur L. Littleworth Best Best & Krieger Diversity Scholarship. This annual program established in 2022 in honor of Art Littleworth, a longtime BBK partner, water law and policy visionary, and respected civil rights advocate.

Fiel, who was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, California, and a fourth-generation local to the area, says she “feels a responsibility to pursue a career providing opportunities to preserve the health of Lake Tahoe.” With an interest in studying in a STEM-based major at Santa Clara University, Fiel may explore working for a water company like South Tahoe Public Utility District as an engineer.

Through this scholarship, BBK and ACWA award one $10,000 scholarship annually to an undergraduate student of diverse or of an underrepresented background who demonstrates a passion for and potential career in water law. The recipient also exemplifies a commitment to diversity and inclusion and will bolster public administration in California.
