Annalissa Maitz
Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK) Associate Annalissa Maitz is a member of the firm’s Special Districts practice, where she provides personal, virtual and on-site representation to school districts, educational institutions and local government agencies throughout California. Annalissa leverages her considerable experience to counsel and defend her clients on applicable federal, state and local regulations impacting educational agencies.
Annalissa returns to BBK after serving as deputy general counsel for the California Department of Education (CDE), where she was responsible for representing the CDE and the state superintendent of public instruction in complex matters such as federal and state litigation, education program advisory and training, bill analysis and COVID-related litigation. While previously with BBK, she gained considerable experience as a member of the firm’s Special Education practice, where she represented local education agency clients throughout the state on complex education issues including parental conflict; individual education plan (IEP) development, creation and defense; preparing educator witnesses for special education hearings with the Office of Administrative Hearings; and providing educator trainings and presentations related to special education issues.
Before admittance to the Bar, Annalisa was a Certified Post-Bar Clerk at the District Attorney offices of Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, and Sacramento County. She spent seven years as a Juvenile Probation Counselor with the County of Napa and was a Youth Behavior Therapist and Crisis Response Counselor in both community-based settings and secure facilities.
Annalissa is a Sacramento native. When not at work, she enjoys the company of her bulldogs, Henrietta and Winston, trying new restaurants, going wine tastings, and exploring historic architecture.
