Maldonado Speaks About Community Impact in the Inland Empire
Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK) Partner Albert Maldonado joined KVCR / 91.9 NPR News host Yvette Walker on IE Latino Voices. Maldonado shared about his journey in law, public service and advocacy within the Inland Empire’s Latino community.
During his conversation on IE Latino Voices, Maldonado reflected on the personal path that led him to the legal profession, tracing it back to a formative conversation with his father while he was a student activist at Pitzer College. Maldonado shared how that moment reshaped his view of advocacy, helping him see the law as a powerful tool for social change and a way to give voice to communities when they are unable to speak for themselves. He also discussed his current work advising municipalities, explaining how he helps public agencies understand and implement new state laws by drafting ordinances and resolutions that turn legislative authority into actionable policy.
Maldonado also spoke about representation in the legal profession and his commitment to expanding opportunities for Latinos and Latinas in law. Citing the underrepresentation of Latino attorneys both nationally and in California, he described co-founding the Hispanic Bar Association of the Inland Empire to strengthen the pipeline into the profession and support Latino-owned legal practices. Maldonado closed by encouraging the next generation of attorneys to confront imposter syndrome by surrounding themselves with mentors and affirming communities. He emphasizes that diverse perspectives add meaningful value to institutions and the legal system as a whole.
