5G and Municipal Rights of Way
Partner Gerry Lederer Participates in Recorded Debate Organized by Broadband Breakfast
Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Gerry Lederer participated on a panel discussion organized by Broadband Breakfast on 5G and its impact on cities’ rights of way and the challenges posed by the ongoing conflicts between the wireless industry and local government agencies.
Gerry spoofed the holiday season and offered his list of the wireless industry’s “Naughty and Nice” acts when it comes to partnering with local governments in the deployment of small cells. The naughty list included an array of misleading statements some in the industry make, while the nice list outlines cooperative efforts between industry and government to develop design standards and educate communities on the RF issues that accompany small cell deployments.
“The FCC has tilted the table too much in favor of industry and not enough for communities,” Gerry said. “We’ll see whether a new FCC will level that table more.”
