Partner Amy Hoyt Receives 2026 Amicus Award from International Municipal Lawyers Association
Recognition highlights her work on Estate of Johnson v. Rakes, Marking Her Third Consecutive Year Receiving Amicus Award
Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK) is excited to share that Amy Hoyt has been honored with a 2026 Amicus Award by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA). She has been recognized for her contributions to an amicus brief filed before the U.S. Supreme Court for Estate of Johnson v. Rakes. This recognition represents her third consecutive year earning an Amicus Award.
Hoyt played a major role in supporting the amicus brief at the Supreme Court petition stage in Estate of Johnson v. Rakes. The brief addressed whether an officer’s incorrect statement about a husband’s hospital stay could constitute a state-created danger that led to the wife’s death.
Amy Hoyt is a Certified Appellate Specialist with more than 30 years of experience representing cities, counties and special districts in environmental and public law matters. She has a strong record in both trial and appellate courts, successfully defending projects and agency decisions under laws such as CEQA and NEPA. Amy also has extensive experience handling complex land use, planning and regulatory cases. In addition to her litigation work, Amy advises public agencies and developers on environmental compliance, drawing on deep experience before state and federal appellate courts, including the California Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit.
