Weiland represents public clients in litigation. He is experienced in all phases of litigation, including discovery, drafting and arguing motions, negotiating settlement agreements, participating in mediation and arbitration, and preparing and conducting jury trials.
He has advised law enforcement agencies on compliance with federal and state law, including the California Privacy Act and the Federal Omnibus Crime Control and Streets Act.
Weiland successfully litigated cases that went to jury trial as a prosecutor and as an attorney for Farmers Insurance.
Weiland Chiang is an attorney in Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Municipal Law practice group. He represents and advises public clients in litigation in state courts, working to manage the demands of a dispute while prioritizing public and constituent interests. With a background in both municipal and insurance matters, Weiland is experienced in navigating the many obstacles of trial and keeping his clients’ goals at the forefront.
Before joining BB&K, Weiland worked as a prosecutor in Tehama County and as an associate trial attorney at Farmers Insurance. As a prosecutor, Weiland litigated misdemeanor and felony cases, as well as matters in Juvenile Court. He successfully prosecuted a case involving multiple felony charges in a jury trial and numerous juvenile matters that involved complex felony allegations. Weiland also advised police officers on compliance with the Fourth Amendment and the California Penal Code.
At Farmers Insurance, Weiland was responsible for defending civil lawsuits that involved matters such as personal injury, premise liability, landlord tenant law and property disputes. Weiland was responsible for in all aspects of litigation, which included discovery, drafting and arguing motions, negotiating settlement agreements, participating in mediation and arbitration, and preparing and conducting jury trials. He successfully defended a case involving an automobile accident resulting in personal injury in a jury trial.
Weiland attended the UC College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly Hastings). While in law school, Weiland clerked for District Attorney offices, which allowed him to advise Police Departments on compliance with federal law and the California Privacy Act.
Weiland was born and raised in San Francisco where he still lives today. He enjoys hiking, playing sports, snowboarding and backpacking.
