BB&K Webinar Jun 04, 2020
A Review of National Lawyers Guild v. City of Hayward's Impact on the California Public Records Act and Video Records
BB&K Free Webinar
Eighteen months ago, a California appellate court decided that public agencies could charge public records requesters for the cost of redacting video footage. This was not only a departure from precedent, it was an enormously consequential decision given recent changes in the laws governing police personnel records. On May 28, the California Supreme Court reversed this decision (see Legal Alert for more details). In this webinar, attorney Christine Wood, Director of PRA Services and E-Discovery Counsel, reviews the facts of the case, explores the counter arguments presented to the Court and explains the Court’s opinion and its impact on California public agencies.
