As students across the nation head back to the classroom, Best Best & Krieger is pleased to celebrate another successful Operation Backpack program. This year, BBK partnered with the San Diego Unified School District’s Children and Youth in Transition (CYT) program to donate and distribute 400 backpacks and school supplies for refugee students and other students in transition.

“We truly appreciate BBK’s generous donation,” said CYT Program Manager Dr. Michele Einspar. “The students we support experience many challenges and your donation helps our school staff to connect with students by providing needed supplies, which facilitates a sense of belonging in school. The backpacks and supplies provided by BBK will help us to ensure each student has all of the essentials they need to be successful in school. BBK’s kindness and support will always be remembered!”

The CYT program supports the success of refugee youth, homeless and military students with tutoring and connections to resources in the community. On average, CYT helps 200 newcomer refugees in San Diego County every month.

In support of this year’s donation, BBK hosted a virtual Bingo for Backpacks fundraiser on Aug. 17. Through annual donations from the firm’s attorneys, staff and vendors, the firm has helped more than 7,000 families and students over the past 13 years of Operation Backpack participation.

“We are always honored to participate in Operation Backpack and thank you to all who took part this year,” said BBK San Diego Office Managing Partner Jim Gilpin. “We are proud to support the leaders of tomorrow and believe that access to these necessary resources is key to the success of these students.”

BBK would like to thank Staples, Inc. for assisting with bulk supplies and Boyer Moving & Storage Owner Kevin Boyer, based in San Diego, for donating a truck and crew to transport backpacks and supplies to the school. In addition, BBK thanks the administration and staff at the San Diego Unified School District and the CYT program for their enthusiasm and partnership.
