Best Best & Krieger Launches Arthur L. Littleworth Diversity Scholarship in Conjunction with ACWA
Applications Due March 15
Best Best & Krieger LLP, in partnership with the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), is pleased to introduce the Arthur L. Littleworth Best Best & Krieger Diversity Scholarship. This annual program was established in honor of the late Art Littleworth, a longtime BB&K partner, water law and policy visionary, and respected civil rights advocate.
Through this program, BB&K and ACWA will annually award one $10,000 scholarship, disbursed evenly over a four-year period, to a qualified undergraduate student of diverse or underrepresented background who, by demonstrating a passion for and career trajectory in water law, and commitment to diversity and inclusion, will bolster public administration in California. The recipient will also receive mentorship opportunities with BB&K and an invitation to attend ACWA’s 2022 Spring Conference.
“BB&K is thrilled to launch a meaningful initiative that will annually honor Art’s incredible legacy, support the interests and talents of diverse students over the course of their entire undergraduate career, and bolster our longstanding relationship with ACWA. In particular, we are excited to go beyond solely providing financial support by also providing aspiring students with mentorship and a firsthand glimpse at careers in law, water and policy,” said BB&K Chief Talent Officer Danielle Sakai.
Applications are due on March 15. Interested students can find eligibility, requirements and formal application here.
Littleworth practiced in BB&K’s Riverside, California office for nearly 70 years. During his career, he participated in all aspects of water law and was respected for his impact on California’s water law and policy. He co-authored the widely read Solano Press book “California Water” with BB&K Managing Partner Eric Garner in 1995, and published updated versions in 2007 and 2019. He was listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Energy, Environmental, Natural Resources & Water Law for 27 consecutive years and named one of the Daily Journal‘s Top 100 Lawyers in California.
Littleworth’s BB&K colleagues fondly recall the ways in which he shaped the firm and Riverside community, noting he was a “truly outstanding” individual with a “great heart and wonderful spirit” and he “embodied the very principles of BB&K: grace, professionalism, understanding, public service and quiet strength.”
