Best Best & Krieger LLP Chief Talent Officer Danielle Sakai was named to the Profiles in Diversity Journal 2021 Women Worth Watching® list, which recognizes dynamic professional women who are using their talents and influence to change the workplace and world. The list and Sakai’s profile and essay published in Diversity Journal’s 2021 Q3 issue.

Sakai joined BB&K in 2000 and before serving in her current role, was a partner in the firm's Environmental Law & Natural Resources practice group, handling environmental contamination, land use and real property disputes. After many years as a committed environmental attorney, Sakai transitioned away from litigation to become BB&K’s CTO. In this role, she oversees attorney recruiting, hiring and professional development, while serving as a sought-after mentor and counselor to many within the firm.

“I take great pride in strengthening the firm by recruiting and retaining talented people,” she said.

As part of her leadership with BB&K, Sakai chaired the Recruiting Committee and was one of four partners on the Associate Development Committee. She was instrumental in launching BB&K’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and helped institute a diversity fellowship for law students, which continues to this day.

In her Diversity Journal essay, which focused on what the pandemic has taught us about work, Sakai, a mother of two, stated that she hopes moving forward employers will “embrace the humanity” of their employees. She goes on to say that, “the pandemic dropped us into each other’s homes and personalized us as people. We were exposed to each other’s lives and shared the struggle of parenthood. We were more productive because we were in our element and allowed to be ourselves without the parental guilt that plagues many.”
