Two BB&K Attorneys Honored by CCCA at 2021 Fall Conference
Christi Hogin and Michael Jenkins Selected to Receive El Matador Grande Award
Best Best & Krieger LLP attorneys Christi Hogin and Michael Jenkins were chosen to receive the California Contract Cities Association’s (CCCA) prestigious El Matador Grande Award for 2021, based on their unparalleled dedication to the CCCA. The awards were formally presented by CCCA’s immediate past president and West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey Horvath during the organization’s 2021 Fall Educational Summit, which took place September 16-19.
The El Matador Grande Award honors individuals who excel in their chosen professions, have made exceptional contributions to the community, and exemplify the CCCA’s mission of furthering the contract model and strengthening local control.
The award originated in 1970 as an honorary fellowship within the CCCA. Previous awardees include members of Congress, governors, state legislators, outstanding local elected officials and select representatives from the business world. El Matador Grande awardees enjoy lifetime privileges to participate in all non-voting CCCA events and activities.
Christi has long served as pro bono counsel to CCCA, and both Michael and Christi have presented on many topics to the membership. Their decades of active involvement make them familiar faces within CCCA. They have each served as city attorney to contract cities and believe that model allows more communities to incorporate and maintain local control.
Christi previously served as city attorney for the cities of Artesia, Lomita, Malibu and Palos Verdes Estates. She also served as assistant city attorney to West Hollywood. Michael currently serves as city attorney for the cities of Goleta, Hermosa Beach and Rolling Hills. Starting at its incorporation in 1984 and until recently, Michael served as city attorney for West Hollywood. He also serves as general counsel to the Los Angeles County West Vector Control District, the South Bay Cities Council of Governments and the Coachella Valley Association of Governments. Michael and Christi provide special counsel services for numerous California municipalities. Both attorneys previously served as president of the City Attorneys Association of Los Angeles County and the City Attorneys Department of the League of California Cities.
