California Trailblazer: BB&K’s Christine N. Wood Honored for Public Records Work

The ARC: Advanced Records Center Leader Recognized by The Recorder

Director of PRA Services and E-Discovery Counsel Christine N. Wood, who heads Best Best & Krieger LLP’s ARC: Advanced Records Center, was named a California Trailblazer by The Recorder. The legal publication’s 2nd annual California Trailblazer report, published Monday, spotlights attorneys making significant marks on their practice, as well as the policy and technological advancement of their practice.
A newspaper industry background created in Wood an appreciation for government transparency while her work for public agencies, using a combination of cutting-edge technology and a highly skilled team, makes her a pioneering and sought-after legal and policy advocate for agencies handling California Public Records Act requests.
Technological advances coupled with continuous legislative and judicial changes have made the process of gathering and releasing public records in California increasingly more complex. Government use of digital communications, such as emails, text messages and social media, along with growing digital records and use of police video cameras, have caused an explosion in the types of public records now available. Public agencies struggle to keep up with record volume — and the increased requests by the public to have them.
The Recorder honored Wood, a Certified E-Discovery Specialist and chair of the California Lawyers Association’s Public Law Section Executive Committee, for leading the charge to ensure California public agencies are equipped with the knowledge and tools to confidently and effectively manage electronic records and eDiscovery — paving the way for more transparent, accountable government at all levels.
