Partner Gerry Lederer Received IMLA Outstanding Associate Member Award

Recognized for Going “Above and Beyond” in Achievements and Contributions to Organization

Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Gerard L. Lederer received the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s Outstanding Associate Member Award at the start of the organization’s virtual Annual Conference Monday.

The Award was established by the IMLA Board of Directors to recognize an associate member’s achievements and contributions that “went above and beyond” during the previous year. It is given to a public law attorney who has an exemplary reputation in the legal community and has made contributions to, and been an active participant in, the organization. The IMLA president selects the recipient, with input from the Board and executive director.

“Gerry is a leading advocate for local governments around the country on telecommunications issues,” IMLA General Counsel and Executive Director Chuck Thompson said in a press release. “He is instrumental in supporting IMLA through the education and advocacy he provides local governments.”

Lederer’s unique background as a nationally recognized telecommunications, cable and small cell lawyer combined with his experiences as a registered federal lobbyist helps municipal clients seeking legislative, regulatory and transactional solutions.

Based in Washington, D.C., Lederer is one of the nation’s leading authorities on integrating cable and wireless technology into communities. He has facilitated the negotiations on some of the leading cable franchise and small cell agreements in the nation. As an advocate, he fights for public and private property owners over law and policy issues arising from federal and state communications legislation and regulation. He has also led numerous FCC coalitions of local governments on cable and wireless regulations.

In 2000, Lederer joined IMLA, a nonprofit professional organization that advocates for, and provides resources to, local government attorneys. He enjoys contributing to, and learning from, his fellow IMLA members through presentations, advocacy and the municipal listserv.

“He is relentless in his pursuit of staving off unwarranted preemption, which is central to IMLA’s mission. Gerry’s enthusiasm and support of IMLA as well as the knowledge and counsel he provides exemplify the qualities of an outstanding associate member,” Thompson added. “And on a personal note, Gerry’s background in association management coupled with his sage advice have helped me immeasurably over the years.”
