Partner Joseph Sanchez Named a San Diego Top Attorney

Labor & Employment and Education Law Attorney Recognized by SD Metro Magazine

Congratulations to Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Joseph Sanchez for being selected to the 2020 SD Metro Top Attorneys list! The list ran in the magazine’s April/May edition.
The magazine recognized Sanchez for working with the Cajon Valley School District to implement its innovative World of Work. The World of Work curriculum exposes students to self and career exploration to be prepared for the workforce. He helped the school obtain a copyright for the curriculum and share it with educators and students across the world — all while helping the District benefit financially.
“I have been practicing in the area of public agency and education law for over 20 years and haven’t seen anything this exciting,” Sanchez said. “So often as attorneys we get called in for something negative, especially in the labor and employment arena where layoffs and harassment allegations are concerned. But being involved in these types of programs from a positive standpoint is very rewarding.”
Sanchez’s work helping the San Ysidro School District overcome numerous challenges and legal issues was also highlighted by the magazine. Located near the U.S.-Mexico border and serving 4,200 predominantly low-income students, the District was facing many issues before a new superintendent came on board. Since then, serving as general counsel, Sanchez helped resolve many of these issues so district officials could focus on serving students’ needs.
Sanchez, who leads BB&K’s Labor & Employment practice group, advises a number of other public agency clients. This includes serving as general and labor counsel to the San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection District, which he recently helped in its successful effort to restore local control of its fire services.
Outside of his practice, Sanchez dedicates time to mentoring students from his alma matter — the University of San Diego School of Law — through the school’s Employment and Labor Law Society. He supports the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association and provides legal services to the San Diego Continuing Education Foundation.
