RIVERSIDE, Calif. —  Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the more than 100 people serving on California’s eight Regional Judicial Selection Advisory Committees, including Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Jack Clarke, Jr. The Riverside-based Education Law attorney was appointed to the Inland Empire Committee.

Clarke, who is also the incoming president of the Riverside County Bar Association, was appointed by Judicial Appointments Secretary Justice Martin Jenkins (Ret.). In announcing the JSAC members, Newsom said he is releasing the list of judicial vetters for the first time in the State’s history as part of his commitment to increase governmental transparency.
“Judges make decisions every day that affect every Californian,” Newsom said. “The people of our state have little insight on the process by which judges are chosen, it is only fair that the public knows who is helping to select the people who will serve them. I thank the new members of the Judicial Selection Advisory Committees for taking on this essential function of our democracy.”
The JSAC members serve in an advisory role. The diverse mix of judges and attorneys  are charged with providing non-partisan feedback on judicial candidates to help promote a diverse and inclusive nomination process for the judiciary, according to the announcement.
Clarke, a long-time community supporter and civil rights advocate, is serving along with some of the State’s most influential attorneys. They include nonprofit leaders, judges, other large private firm attorneys and a top Facebook lawyer.
