Law Enforcement Use of Force & Liability Conference

The State Bar of California Public Law Section

Best Best & Krieger LLP attorneys Ryan Baron and Gary Schons will serve as program chair and speaker, respectively, at The State Bar of California Public Law Section's “Law Enforcement Use of Force & Liability Conference” in Los Angeles. The conference will focus on recent developments in police officer use of force, including panels on racial profiling, recent U.S. Supreme Court case law, technological use of force, and use of force investigations.

“Technological Force: Body Cameras, Killer Robots and Ethics in Police Technologies”
Law enforcement is utilizing sophisticated technologies in investigatory techniques and use of force. Body-worn cameras by police are becoming the norm across California, but difficult questions persist concerning the policies governing their use. Recently, law enforcement in the City of Dallas used a robot to use explosives and kill a shooting suspect. This panel will address recent technological advances in law enforcement technology and raise ethical issues and offer advice on the use of advanced policing technologies.
