BB&K Ranked No. 12 in U.S. on Diversity Scorecard

Best Best & Krieger LLP was ranked No. 12 in the U.S. on The American Lawyer 2021 Diversity Scorecard. In addition, BB&K was ranked No. 6 for Highest Percentage of Minority Equity Partners and No. 7 for Highest Percentage of Hispanic Attorneys by the legal publication that ranks U.S. law firms annually based on demographic surveys submitted by the firms.
 
“While BB&K’s high rankings on the Diversity Scorecard reflect the firm’s long-standing commitment to hiring, retaining and promoting minority and underrepresented attorneys and professional staff, we are always looking for opportunities to strengthen our efforts,” said Chief Talent Officer Danielle Sakai. “To that end, last year BB&K formed a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. The Committee and its subcommittees create programs for attorneys, staff and clients that raise awareness of diversity issues and help the firm remain thoughtful and equitable in all our personnel and hiring activities.”
 
In publishing the Diversity Scorecard, The American Lawyer analyzed how U.S. law firms overall are progressing on diversity efforts, especially against the backdrop of last year’s COVID-19 pandemic and the focus on racial and social justice issues in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. The publication found that the number of minority attorneys and partners increased from last year across the legal industry.
 
“Some attribute this continued progress to a maturing system of diversity and inclusion at law firms, while others have said the Black Lives Matter movement and the galvanizing effects of George Floyd’s murder and the ensuing wave of national protests pushed D&I to the forefront at firms. Both likely played a role in avoiding the setbacks of the last crisis,” the publication reports.
 
In the past year, BB&K’s DEI Committee produced firm-wide opportunities for attorneys and staff to learn from diversity experts and each other. It organized discussions on everything from implicit bias to bystander intervention methodology to police and city response in a racially charged shooting incident.
