BB&K Named 19th Most Ethnically Diverse of Nation's Largest Law Firms

Minority Law Journal's annual "Diversity Scorecard"
May 2008

BB&K was recently listed as the 19th most ethnically diverse U.S. law firm in Minority Law Journal’s (MLJ) annual "Diversity Scorecard" survey of 254 of the largest and highest-grossing firms in the country.[1] BB&K was also recognized as having the 10th highest percentage of minority partners (11.5%) and the 5th highest percentage of Hispanic American attorneys (9.3%). Additionally, under a new diversity ranking formula that MLJ will begin using next year which combines percentage of minority lawyers with percentage of minority partners to factor in diversity at senior levels, BB&K would have ranked 10th most diverse this year.

In 2007, MLJ’s Diversity Scorecard ranked BB&K as the 27th most diverse U.S. law firm of those surveyed; and in 2006 they ranked BB&K the 30th most diverse.

“The firm is committed to recruiting, hiring, developing, and promoting attorneys and staff from diverse backgrounds which reflect the communities, organizations and businesses we serve,” says BB&K managing partner Eric L. Garner. “For our clients, the value of diversity comes from the melding of different cultures, talents and styles that drive innovative solutions to complex legal issues.”

“We are extremely pleased with our continual climb up the Diversity Scorecard,” said Pat Benter, BB&K’s director of professional recruitment and development. “Our newly formed diversity committee is focused on bringing even more diversity to the firm through its outreach recruiting efforts and is committed to minority retention.”

MLJ sent Diversity Scorecard surveys to 254 of the largest and highest-grossing law firms in the country. A total of 211 firms reported ethnic data. MLJ’s current ranking system measures percentage of minority attorneys at all levels equally. More information on the Diversity Scorecard can be found at www.minoritylawjournal.com.
